I just spoke to Gary West. Our contract with CCSSO officially expired yesterday and, while we have had several excellent discussions, there is a lapse which was important for us to discuss.
He reassured me that CCSSO intends to continue its contract with PCG to support a common model. Gary alluded a final set of meetings he needs to do to define the scope of work he wants from us next. I assume that he is obliquely referencing Gates-SLI/NewsCorp/Dell. I said that we were eager to merge models with Dell. The logic is the logic. Students enroll in sections in schools. We don’t particularly care what an element is called and the relationships for each state of the data are what they are. They key is the quality and comprehensiveness of the documentation. With that said, I also let him know that IL, AR, MA, UT (and perhaps soon VA, TN and others) are already building DWs based on SCM v2.0 and that any changes in the common model would have to be carefully managed. He reassured me on that point as well. The bottom line is that he expect to have the outline of the agreement next week and a contract for us shortly.
Aaron, Amy and I met yesterday. We planned today’s 1p Sandbox call. Ken T from NC will be presenting his metadata model. We will also be discussing ODSs. We will let folks now that we will be taking a break on Friday calls for the month of July due to staff vacations and pick up again in Aug with a new schedule and increased energy. If your schedule allows, please join us for today’s call.
